Lieutenant Colonel Fateh Singh Kaler (Sunny Deol), along with Major Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya (Varun Dhawan), Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon (Diljit Dosanjh) and Naval Officer Mahinder Rawat (Ahan Shetty), lead their group in the 1971 Battle of Basantar to prevent the Pakistan Army from infiltrating deep into India. Despite being weaker in strength compared to the enemies, the basic premise of Frontier 2 is that the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force face the enemies with raw strength, courage and jurrat (brave), push the infiltrators back to their country, secure the ‘chicken neck’ corridor, prevent Pakistan from cutting the Pathankot-Jammu highway and capture over 1000 kilometers of Pakistani territory.

When you have a classic war drama like Border, finding a spiritual sequel is a challenge in itself. The 1997 blockbuster made a deep impact on our minds and hearts. The makers of Border 2 were in tune with the audience’s emotions and thus created one of the best war dramas of this decade. YES! It is with great pride and joy that I would like to say that Border 2 is the best war epic Bollywood has produced this decade. It is a film that will become a classic and a textbook for future generations on how to raise the bar and achieve the next impossible task.

This filmmaking deserves to be seen on the biggest screen possible. Border 2 has it all; A thrilling action combat action game with a strong emotional boost and amazing performances that will bring tears to your eyes. There are scenes throughout the movie that will make your heart swell with pride and you will proudly, loudly celebrate the bravery and fearlessness of the forces, saluting ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ with your lungs out.

Border 2 clocks in at over 3 hours, but not once will you be torn away from the screen, distracted, or even disturbed by its runtime. The script is the film’s greatest strength. Yes, more than the performances or the spectacular, VFX-laden, hands-on battle sequences, Sumit Arora and Anurag Singh’s engaging screenplay Nidhi Dutta’s story lays the strong foundation of the drama and transports you into the world of Border 2 with conviction and mastery. There are some truly laugh-out-loud moments in the first half of Border 2. The Indian War Academy scenes establish the camaraderie between the lead actors and provide some unexpected but entertaining scenes. The art direction, detailed setting and cinematography deserve mention for adding more realism to the series.

Speaking of performances, Sunny Deol is literally the SOUL of the film. There is no Border without our Roaring Deol. From the first frame, he commands and commands the screen. At 69 years old, Sunny has proven that age is just a number; He delivers an emotional performance accompanied by some dazzling stunts that will be greeted with the loudest cheers and chants in movie theaters. No wonder Sunny is the last of Bollywood’s mass superstars. However, Border 2 also provides ample scope for other characters.

Varun Dhawan is the most targeted person since the trailer and will be celebrated as the HERO of this epic war saga. Varun was shining like the sun in his role as Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya. This is the rebirth of actor Varun, who needed a strong script and a masterful director who could bring the best out of him. His dialect is extremely perfect, his personality is captivating and at the same time he commands the screen. Even his simplicity or his chemistry with Medha Rana seems organic and encouraging.

Ahan Shetty delivers his best performance till date in his second film. Ahan has a legacy left by his father Suniel Shetty’s iconic Bhairon Singh from Border. Ahan didn’t let the load overshadow his performance. Unlike his father’s on-screen character, Ahan is calm, calm but sharp, calculating and forward-thinking. Of course, if you compare the two, Suniel was much better than Ahan but this comparison is not fair on Jr Shetty. He did his best at work and despite his limited screen time, especially in the second half, Ahan justifies why he deserves to be a part of Border 2. Ahan will definitely evoke nostalgia when you see him repeating ‘Maa Shakti’ on the biggest stage.

Diljit Dosanjh gives his best performance yet as Air Force Pilot Sekhon. Diljit justifies the aura and life of Param Vir Chakra Sekhon and also delivers his signature moments of comic relief flawlessly. Diljit and Anurag Singh are a deadly actor-director duo (Punjab comes after 1984) and the director has proven once again why Diljit is an all-round superstar. Diljit will surely win the hearts of his fans once again and even the haters will fall hopelessly in love with his charming personality.

Varun-Dhawan-1

A special mention for the ladies, Mona Singh provides a great boost to Sunny Deol’s character. Her chemistry with Deol is better than Tabu’s in the original. Sonam Bajwa looks adorably cute and makes an impact despite the limited screen space. Medha Rana is a surprise discovery. He is the most real character in the movie. The way he conveys simplicity also deserves to be mentioned. Another good actress, Anya Singh, pulls it off despite her limited scope.

The music by Anu Malik, Mithoon, Vishal Mishra, Sachet-Parampara and Gurmoh is also on par with the classic album. The renditions of the original songs Ghar Kab Aaoge, Jaate Hue Lamhon and Hindustan Meri Jaan are soothing to the ears and well placed. Background music by John Stewart Eduri

The action of the film is handled by Dr Ravi Varma, Nick Powell, Parvez Shaikh and Allan Amin and they deserve huge praise. The movie will keep you glued and engaged thanks to its on-screen spectacles. Explosions, hand-to-hand combat and tank battles are the best of recent times. Previously called VFX shots have been corrected and brought closer to realism.

Director Anurag Singh will soon be remembered as the greatest director of Indian cinema. He took up the challenge of directing such an action drama backed by a strong franchise and yet took it to another level. Anurag will be known for his masterful filmmaking that never loses focus and entertains the audience by ticking all the boxes.

I could say more about the movie, but the truth remains the same. Border 2 is the best war drama of the last decade. It’s a film made with the vision of carrying the legacy forward, rather than capitalizing on the goodwill of the franchise or the emotions of the audience. Border 2 will burst into theaters. The sky is the limit for this movie. Border 2 will be the first blockbuster of 2026. It will be remembered for its combination of pure storytelling, high-scale entertainment and powerful emotional drama.

I’ll finish this review by suggesting that since the makers of Border 2 have successfully silenced the noise with their blockbuster, all the haters and trolls will have to dig a big hole and bury themselves deep in it.
