Several houses in a small English village in Northumberland have been evacuated after “suspicious items” were found during a routine arrest. Police vehicles and fire trucks flocked to Welbeck Road in Guide Post, Northumerland, in the early hours of this morning (6 May).

Northumbria Police said a man was arrested with items found at the time of his arrest. The exact nature of the items has not yet been revealed. A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “Just before 4.30am this morning (Wednesday), police attended an address on Welbeck Road in Directory Post to carry out standard arrest investigations. Upon entering the property a number of suspicious items were located.” To ensure public safety, some addresses were evacuated as a precaution. A security cordon has been established and expert teams are expected to arrive at the scene. “Anyone with concerns in the area should contact the officer in charge.”
