More than 100 houses were destroyed and hundreds of people had to be evacuated due to a severe fire in a residential area in southern Norway. The fire has been raging since Friday, July 17, and has destroyed a large residential area in Krokstadelva, Drammen, about 30 miles west of Oslo.

The cataclysmic blaze spread to a nearby forest, according to local officials, who tried desperately to extinguish the fire and bring the area to safety. About 80 firefighters, Civil Defense teams and six firefighting helicopters were deployed to fight the flames.
