Norway’s World Cup Viking themed team photo is potentially the greatest team photo of all time

It looks like Team Norway is heading to the United States for the World Cup as warriors of old. As a tribute to the Vikings who crossed the Atlantic Ocean over a thousand years ago, the entire team is decked out in equipment that makes them look like they’ve just stepped out of the ‘Vikings’ television show.

The architect of the photo shoot was England’s well-known photographer David Yarrow. “I like to take people outside the way they are normally photographed.” Yarrow told The Athletic. “I knew it might get some criticism, but I wanted to play the feeling of the journey going back to the Vikings, as if they were sailing to America.”

To be honest, anyone who criticizes this can kick the stones.

Look at Erling Haaland. The Manchester City striker looks almost as good as he does on the pitch. He was dressed in classic Viking clothing, holding a sword and shield.

“Norway is coming,” the caption reads, about the collaboration between the official Instagram account of the Norwegian football team and Yarrow. And it’s been a long time coming to this. Norway qualified for the World Cup for the first time in 28 years and thus only their fourth time qualifying for this prestigious tournament.

The funny thing is, when you compare the photo of this team to their Group I rivals France, you can see how great this photo op really is. On the one hand, Norway looks scary and creative, while France looks bland, boring and frankly weird.

Come on. What’s going on here, Rayan Cherki? The Manchester City midfielder looks like he’s eaten too many pancakes. I really can’t believe this photo was published like this. They did wrong to Çerki.

In my opinion, this team photo is pure genius. This photo may have been at the top of America’s first photo shoot featuring Yarrow’s European Ryder Cup team, and was titled “From Broadway to Bethpage Black, New York was built on the backs of Europeans.” It was a creative shoot in the USA, and although that loss is still painful today, the photo is epic.

Norway will open its World Cup campaign against Iraq on June 16 in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
