Leeds Bradford Airport: Jet2 passengers ‘grounded for 6 hours’ | UK | News

Snow and ice appear to have caused problems at an airport in the United Kingdom. As the UK prepares to return to the bitter cold and snowy conditions, passengers at Leeds Bradford Airport (LBA) are experiencing some delays.

A plane passenger at the airport claimed he was stranded on a Jet2 plane for several hours, but admitted other flights had also departed. The passenger told Leeds Live earlier this afternoon: “Chaos at Leeds Bradford Airport, 6 hours into the Jet2 flight to Paris and according to the pilot there were further delays due to icing and LBA only having a working de-icer truck and Jet2 no longer having its own de-icer. The planes next to us landed and the passengers on the Paris flight also left.”

A spokesperson for LBA said: “LBA remained open and fully operational throughout the day. While some airlines experienced delays to departure flights due to adverse weather conditions, airport operations continue as normal and passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest flight information.”

Express has also contacted Jet2 for comment.

Delays are increasing and, according to LBA, the 7.40am flight to Barcelona was scheduled to depart at 3.45pm this afternoon. The departure to Palma at 8.15am was also postponed. There were also delays in the 08.55 Geneva flight, the 12.45 Tenerife flight and the 13.05 Krakow flight departing in the afternoon. Two flights scheduled to depart at 14.45, a flight to Paris and a flight to Malta, were also postponed.

A yellow ice warning will come into force across much of Yorkshire, including Huddersfield, Sheffield, Leeds, Bradford and York.

The Met Office said: “A band of rain and sleet will be seen southwards across England and Wales on Friday evening and overnight, with some snowfall on the hills. As skies clear, temperatures will drop below freezing, leading to the risk of ice forming on untreated surfaces.”
