Joe Biden completes round of radiation therapy for prostate cancer | Joe Biden

Former president’s spokesman Joe Biden completes a round of radiation therapy treatments confirmed to CBS News.
The president first announced his diagnosis of metastasized prostate cancer in May and announced that he was undergoing radiation treatment in early October. Biden’s diagnosis in May showed he had an aggressive, high-risk form of cancer.
Biden, 82, received radiation treatment at the University of Pennsylvania Radiation Oncology clinic, across the state line from the president’s home in Delaware.
In an Instagram story by Biden’s daughter, Ashley Biden, the former president is seen ringing the silver bell with a doctor at the clinic.
“Ring the bell! Thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff at Penn Medicine. We are so grateful!” Ashley wrote alongside her father’s video.
In cancer treatment, the ringing of the bell symbolizes progress in the patient’s program and the end of the treatment phase. Other photos of Ashley include her posing with Biden’s wife, former First Lady Jill Biden, and her two grandchildren.
“My dad was so brave throughout his treatment. I was grateful,” Ashley wrote on one of the images.
Radiation therapy isn’t the only medical procedure Biden has undergone recently. The former president had surgery to remove skin cancer lesions in September. He underwent Mohs surgery, a procedure in which skin is cut until no signs of cancer remain, his spokesman, Kelly Scully, said.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common types of cancer, and an estimated one in eight men will be diagnosed during his lifetime. Biden’s form is aggressive and has spread to his bones, making it more difficult to treat than a localized cancer.
Concerns about Biden’s mental and physical health have been front and center in the 2024 campaign, ultimately forcing the former president to leave office just three months before the November election.
Biden is scheduled to receive the lifetime achievement award at the Edward M Kennedy Institute in Boston on Sunday.
