Dev Deepawali 2025 will be celebrated in Kashi on November 5. The lamps will be lit from 5:15 pm to 7:50 pm during Pradosh Kaal. The festival, which falls under Siddhi Yoga, symbolizes the victory of Lord Shiva over Tripurasura and the descent of the gods into the Ganges for worship and enlightenment.

The sacred festival of Dev Deepawali, also known as the Festival of Lights of the Gods, is one of the most famous events in Kashi (Varanasi). It is celebrated every year on the full moon (Purnima) in Shukla Paksha of the Kartik month and marks the day when gods and goddesses are believed to descend into the Ganges to honor Lord Shiva.

When is Dev Deepawali in 2025?

According to the Hindu calendar, Kartik Purnima will begin on Tuesday, November 4 at 22.36 and will end on Wednesday, November 5 at 18.48. According to the Ascension date and Pradosh era, Dev Deepawali will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.

Brahma Muhurta for early morning worship will be from 04:52 to 05:44 and evening twilight will last from 17:33 to 18:51.

Auspicious Time to Light the Lamps

On this holy night, devotees light thousands of oil lamps along the ghats of the Ganges River during Pradosh Kaal, which is considered the most auspicious period for the ritual. The best time to light diyas this year is between 17:15 and 19:50, which is 2 hours and 35 minutes.

Dev Deepawali 2025 in Siddhi Yoga

This year’s festival comes under the influence of Siddhi Yoga, an auspicious yoga that lasts until 11:28 am. After this, Vyatipat Yoga comes into play. Additionally, the Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga time, which is believed to fulfill all desires, will occur on November 6 from 6:34 am to 6:37 pm.

On the day of the festival, Ashwini Nakshatra will remain active until 9:40 am, followed by Bharani Nakshatra, which will continue until the early hours of November 6 before moving on to Krittika Nakshatra.

Although Bhadra will be there from 6:36 am to 8:44 am on November 5, he resides in heaven (Swarg Lok), which means he will not have any inauspicious impact on the celebrations.

Spiritual Significance of Dev Deepawali

According to ancient scriptures, Lord Shiva defeated the demon Tripurasura on this day and freed the three worlds from his tyranny. To celebrate this divine victory, the gods descended on Kashi, took a holy dip in the Ganges and lit lamps in reverence to Lord Shiva. Since then, this event has been commemorated as Dev Deepawali, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.

The ghats of Varanasi, Prayagraj, Haridwar and Ujjain shine with millions of lamps as devotees pray, perform Ganga aarti and celebrate this divine night with devotion and joy.
