Naga group NSCN-IM has denied any involvement in the ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, which resulted in the death of two personnel, and maintained that it remained committed to the ceasefire agreement and the peace process.

The alleged attack “carried out by an armed group suspected to be the separatist ‘East Wing’ group” in the Nungshang Khong district had “no connection” with it, the force said in a statement.

The organization stated that it was “not involved and had no knowledge” of the incident, and reiterated that it strictly adhered to the ceasefire agreement signed with the Center and continued to fulfill its responsibilities under the agreed ground rules.

He said he would “never resort to any action that could undermine, derail or sabotage ongoing Indo-Naga political negotiations” and reaffirmed his continued unwavering commitment to an honorable and peaceful political solution.

NSCN-IM also condemned all actions that undermine the peace process and political talks and called on all stakeholders to exercise restraint and responsibility so that progress towards a peaceful solution is not jeopardized.

Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed and several others injured after suspected militants ambushed a convoy of paramilitary forces in the Naga-dominated district on Monday afternoon (July 6, 2026).

Assam Rifles Director General Lieutenant General Vikas Lakhera paid tribute to the two soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Following the attack, security forces launched search operations in the area, while the state government promised strict action against those responsible.
