An officer shot and killed a suspect claiming to be “Lucifer” at Grand Central Terminal after he allegedly attacked three people with a machete on a subway platform, the New York Police Department (NYPD) said.

Police officers shot and killed 44-year-old Anthony Griffin, who ignored more than 20 commands to stop as he advanced toward them with a machete, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference Saturday.

Officers responded to a 9:40 a.m. 911 call about an assault in progress at the train station. When they arrived, police said Griffin was holding the machete.

Tisch said Griffin “repeatedly said he was Lucifer.”

He added that after Griffin refused orders to drop the knife, an officer fired his service weapon and shot him twice. Griffin was transported to a local hospital and died.

Griffin had three prior undercover arrests but had no history of being an emotionally disturbed person, Tisch told reporters.

It was stated that the three stabbing victims were an 84-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 64-year-old man. All three were transported to local hospitals but their condition was stated to be stable.

While Tisch said the NYPD added 175 additional officers last month, “Random acts of violence scare everyone. Anyone can be a victim of random violence, and that’s why it’s so important for New Yorkers to understand that the NYPD has recently increased our presence on the public transportation system.” he said.

The Metro Transit Authority (MTA) told Fox News Digital that trains 4, 5, 6 and 7 skipped the Grand Central Terminal 42nd Street stop and that the NYPD was investigating.
