The transgender suspect who opened fire at an ice hockey rink in Rhode Island on Monday killed his ex-wife and adult son, while his daughter claimed she had a “vendetta” against the family, authorities said.
North Providence Mayor Charles Lombardi said Robert Dorgan, 56, shot and killed his ex-wife Rhonda Dorgan at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Pawtucket and his son Aiden Dorgan, who later died at the hospital, according to WCVB.
All three victims were injured in the shooting, including Rhonda Dorgan’s parents, Linda and Gerald Dorgan. According to the press, both Linda and Gerald are currently hospitalized in critical condition.

The third victim was identified as Thomas Geruso, a friend of the Dorgan family, who was in critical condition.
Police said the attacker, who identified himself as transgender, died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“I want to make sure people understand that this is one person’s vendetta against his family,” Dorgan’s daughter, Amanda Wallace-Hubbard, told WPRI-TV. “We were targeted. It was very specific. It wasn’t random.”
Wallace-Hubbard, Robert Dorgan’s daughter from another relationship, said she was in the stands with her two young sons and the rest of the family at the time of the shooting. She described Rhonda as her stepmother and Aidan as her stepbrother.
He credited an unidentified good Samaritan with saving both his and his sons’ lives. Footage of the shooting shows the man struggling with Robert Dorgan, according to WPRI-TV.
“I was really afraid it would be my sons’ turn until that good Samaritan disarmed him,” Wallace-Hubbard said.

“I can’t thank him enough,” he added. “I’m sure my sons and I are alive because of him.”
Colin Dorgan, the 17-year-old son of Robert and Rhonda Dorgan and a senior at North Providence High School, was playing a game on the ice when the shooting occurred, according to WPRI-TV.
Video taken from inside the arena shows players diving and fans running from their seats as gunshots rang out during the high school game. At least a dozen gunshots can be heard in the footage and people can be heard screaming as they scrambled to hide.
Police have not publicly identified a motive. Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves described the attack as “family dispute”
The Dorgan family’s lawyer said they were “deeply and profoundly affected” by the tragedy and were cooperating with authorities.

“We are reminded that behind every headline is a family experiencing deep pain and loss,” the statement said, according to WCVB. In the statement, it was stated that the family focused on the injured and asked for more questions to their lawyers.
Investigators continue to review surveillance video and eyewitness accounts as they piece together the timeline of the shooting.
Court records show Robert Dorgan has a documented history of conflict with relatives in recent years, including disagreements related to gender transition. WPRI reported.
Robert Dorgan told North Providence police in 2020 that he had undergone gender reassignment surgery and that’s why his father-in-law wanted to evict him from the family home.

According to court documents cited by WPRI, Robert Dorgan claimed that his father-in-law used a derogatory term for transgender people and threatened retaliation if he did not leave him. His father-in-law was charged at the time, but prosecutors later dismissed the case.
Court records also show that Robert Dorgan’s then-wife mentioned “sex reassignment surgery, narcissistic + personality disorder traits” in the divorce papers, and the reasons were then changed to “irreconcilable differences.”
The divorce was finalized in 2021. Divorce papers showed that Robert Dorgan was living in Jacksonville, Florida, and working as a truck driver at the time.
Also in 2020, Robert Dorgan accused his mother of assaulting him and acting in a “violent, threatening or turbulent manner,” according to police records cited by WPRI. Her mother was charged with simple assault, battery and disorderly conduct, but the case was later dismissed, according to court records.

The dispute also referred to Robert Dorgan’s disagreement with his father-in-law. According to court documents, Dorgan told police that his father-in-law “told me that if I did not drop the assault charges against my mother, further retaliation could be expected, which was another reason to have me killed.”
The day before the shooting, Robert Dorgan reported that an actor was D-Del. She posted on X stating that she was going to “BERSERK” after her representative Sarah McBride insisted that she was a man.
