Obama rallies with scandal-plagued Virginia AG candidate Jay Jones

Former President Barack Obama was panned by critics after he headlined a rally in Hampton Roads, Virginia, for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger and the Democratic statewide ticket, whose scandal-plagued attorney general candidate Jay Jones also made a surprise appearance.
Jones, who presided over the killings of former House Speaker Todd Gilbert and his children and also faces an ongoing criminal investigation stemming from a 186 mph reckless driving charge, avoided mentioning those scandals and instead criticized President Donald Trump during his remarks.
The appearance linked Obama and Spanberger to Jones; Critics said the move undermined the former president’s past calls for civility and his 2024 comments urging Black voters to support Vice President Kamala Harris.
“They support killing us,” Florida political journalist Eric Daugherty said of Obama’s appearance with Jones.

“In a disgusting sight, Virginia AG candidate Jay Jones, who called for the killing of Republicans and their children, is applauded along with gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger at Barack Hussein Obama’s rally,” Daugherty wrote. he said.
Fox News’ Steve Doocy reported Monday that Obama did not specifically mention Jones’ name before asking Republican Winsome Earle-Sears about the show.
“I come from a country where I saw political violence when I was 10 years old, I saw political mobs shooting people and shooting at each other,” said Earle-Sears, who was born in Kingston, Jamaica.

Youngkin, who met with Earle-Sears in Purcellville, Loudoun County, called Obama and Spanberger’s appearance with Jones “a great representation of the far left’s embrace of violence.”
“I can’t believe Jay Jones is there, but Abigail Spanberger is with him, Barack Obama is with him,” Youngkin said.

The outgoing governor also called Jones “crazy” and wrote that any remaining moral clarity in the Democratic Party had been “laid bare.”
“Virginians saw clearly [during the rally] that violence and murder are not a problem for them. These may be their values, but they are not Virginia’s values.”

Conservative commentator Western Lensman called Obama’s remarks during the rally blatantly hypocritical.
Obama told the crowd that Spanberger knew that people should “disagree without calling each other names or demonizing each other.”
The attorney general candidate, who was also present at the same rally, called House Speaker Todd Gilbert, R-Shenandoah, worse than dictators Pol Pot and Adolf Hitler and expressed that he wanted to urinate on Gilbert’s grave.

“Yes Jay ‘I want to kill Republicans and their children’ Jones shared this scene with Obama because he was invited to do so.” [and] He remains a confirmed member of the Democratic ticket,” Fox News correspondent Guy Benson added in response to Lensman.
“Obama doesn’t even believe his fake high-minded bullshit, but that’s his autopilot nonsense,” Benson added.
Another X commenter noted that comedian Roseanne Barr was fired from her ABC sitcom after describing Obama confidant Valerie Jarrett as a cross between the Muslim Brotherhood and “Planet of the Apes” — but Democrats are determined to support someone like Jones.
Critics also focused on Obama’s apparent change of heart about black candidates running for office.

“Obama met with psychopath Jay Jones today,” former AFP deputy chief Phil Kerpen said.
Jones was also defended once again by Virginia House Speaker Don Scott Jr., D-Portsmouth, who was interviewed by former NBC anchor Chuck Todd.
Scott told Todd that he believed if Jones won, Virginia would “let him do his thing and move on,” calling him “a good young man who made a big mistake.”
Scott had previously told reporters after Spanberger’s spat with Earle-Sears that people interested in Jones should instead look at Trump’s comments about former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo.
Trump had claimed that Cheney’s neoconservative and interventionist political bent would be less evident if he were in the same “war zone” as US soldiers and with enemy rifles pointed at him.
