Gulf countries face new missile and drone attacks

Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates reported this morning that they were subjected to new attacks with explosions and sirens blaring in the oil-rich Gulf.

The Saudi Ministry of Defense said on Monday it detected two ballistic missiles targeting the capital, one of which was intercepted and the other crashed in an uninhabited area.

The UAE defense ministry stated that it is “currently responding to missile and drone threats from Iran” and explained that “the sounds heard are the result of Air Defense Systems intercepting missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.”

A few hours ago, Abu Dhabi authorities reported that an Indian citizen was injured by fragments falling from an intercepted ballistic missile.

Sirens were blaring in Bahrain and residents were called for shelter.

“Citizens and residents are urged to remain calm and go to the nearest safe place,” the interior ministry said on social media.

Gulf countries, which have long seen themselves as an oasis of security and stability in the region, were drawn into the Middle East war as Iran retaliated against US-Israeli attacks.
