Jew Julian Leeser, Liberal member for Berowra, speaks about his personal experiences at the royal commission into antisemitism.

Leeser, holding back tears, told how she had recently gone to a bar mitzvah with her young son.

“And his little hand grabbed mine pretty tight and he said to me, ‘Daddy, how do you know we’re going to be safe?'” Leeser said. he said.

“I told him, ‘Of course we’ll be safe,’ even though I could see the police car there, but of course I couldn’t guarantee that. If an eight-year-old doesn’t feel safe going into a place of worship, that’s not the Australia I know and love.”

“It’s not the Australia I want for my children, or anyone else’s children.”
