Olympic countdown clock unveiled in Queens Street six years and 31 days out from Games
A clock counting down to the 2032 Olympic Games in Brisbane has been unveiled in the center of Queen Street Shopping Centre.
The installation was unveiled Thursday morning – six years, 31 days, nine hours, 36 minutes and 10 seconds before the Olympics – at the central intersection next to Jimmy’s On the Mall.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Olympic organizing committee chairman Andrew Liveris, deputy prime minister Jarrod Bleijie and Olympic swimmer Emma McKeon attended the meeting.
There were also ibis rustling in the trash across from Hungry Jack’s, and some were descending onto the platform, holding the clock, just as the presentation was beginning.
“This is the meeting point of Brisbane,” Schrinner told the hundreds of people gathered to watch.
“This is the place where people used to say, ‘We’ll meet you outside a certain burger joint’ if they were going to meet you in the city, but now they’ll say, ‘I’ll meet you at the countdown.'”
The logo of the luxury watch brand Omega, which is the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games, is featured on the watch along with the official Olympic Games branding.
Liveris said it’s a “mini” countdown clock, and the larger one will be installed exactly one year after the event.
