One dead in Agartala blast; State govt. orders probe

The Tripura government constituted an inquiry committee a day after a mysterious explosion damaged an apartment building in Agartala’s Shankar Chowmuhani area, killing one person and injuring others.

Subhrajit Choudhury, a local resident, died of burns on Friday, June 26, 2026.

Prime Minister Dr. Manik Saha visited the site on Friday, June 26, 2026. He chatted with the residents of the building and listened to their problems.

The explosion is said to have occurred in Subhrajit Choudhury’s house, which was 90 percent burnt. Eight apartments, including his, were damaged.

The Chief Minister expressed his condolences to the bereaved family of Subhrajit Choudhury and assured them that the incident will be investigated.

The inquiry panel will be headed by the Secretary, Urban Development Department, Director of Fire Services, West Tripura Superintendent of Police, Chief Engineer (ÖZLÜ-Buildings) and Agartala Municipal Commissioner. The committee was instructed to submit a report within seven days.
