One Nation pips Labor in Newspoll as PM’s support slips

As support for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese falls, One Nation has overtaken Labor as the country’s most popular political party in a News poll.

The poll showed One Nation’s preselection vote rising by four points to 31 per cent, Labor’s vote falling by one point to 30 per cent, and the coalition’s vote falling by two points to 18 per cent.

The News Poll published in The Australian also recorded a one-point drop in Greens votes to 11 per cent.

The survey sampled 1,240 voters and was conducted between Monday and Thursday last week.

This mirrors the results of a Redbridge Group/Accent Research poll published a week ago, in which One Nation received 31 per cent support, Labor 28 per cent and the coalition 20 per cent.

The Newspoll poll puts Mr Albanese’s net approval rating (the number of people satisfied with his performance minus the number of people dissatisfied) at minus 24.

It is stated that 36 percent of the respondents are satisfied with the prime minister, while 60 percent are dissatisfied.

The Australian reported that this was Mr Albanese’s lowest net approval rating in a Newspaper poll since the 2022 election.

The latest poll shows that for the first time since Newspoll was launched in 1985, the major parties (Labour and the coalition) received less than 50 per cent of the primary vote.

In the 2025 federal election, Labor won 34.6 per cent of the primary vote, while the coalition received 31.8 per cent.

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation party received 6.4 percent of the vote and won no seats.
