One of last D-Day heroes desperate for medal ‘to complete’ his life before he dies

Don Butt, one of the last D-DAYA veterans of the UK, is competing to get the campaign medal 80 years after Normandy landing. At the age of 17, he joined the Royal Shipping and met a gun at Juno Beach and worked in Europe and Pacific. After decades of silence, Don’s story has now launched a medal application to France, which was now studied. His family says that he will “complete his life” before getting too late to get him.
