One-year-old baby dies after ‘choking on fake finger nail’
Police suspect that in a freak accident, a one-year-old baby choked to death after trying to swallow the fake nails belonging to his manicurist mother.
Dante Valentín Bermudes Rumi was taken to the hospital when he was found having difficulty breathing. Despite paramedics’ desperate efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The autopsy revealed that the teenager died of asphyxiation after his airway was blocked by ‘two objects’ stuck in his throat.
Following the incident, a court investigation into the tragedy was launched.
Dante’s mother, Aylin Saucedo, told the Argentinian media about the drama that took place in Los Polvorines in Greater Buenos Aires.
He said: ‘My son died on March 21st. We were at home and I noticed he couldn’t breathe.
‘I ran to my neighbour’s house to get help but there was nothing he could do.
‘Then my aunt came and the same thing happened, so I put Dante in the car and we went to the hospital.
The autopsy revealed that the cause of death of Dante Valentín Bermudes Rumi was asphyxiation as a result of two foreign objects entering his airway.
‘It probably took me about 10 minutes in total. ‘When we arrived my son was dead.’
Police said the main trauma hospital serving the area, Dr. Federico was called to Abete Hospital.
Then the baby’s father came and allegedly attacked Aylin, her new partner and her father.
She told TV news channel Todo Noticias that her ex-girlfriend did everything she could to prevent him from attending his son’s funeral by keeping information about the location from her.
Opening her heart about her loss in a heartbreaking social media post, Aylen said shortly after her son’s tragic death: ‘Today you are no longer here and all I have left are your toys, your little moles and everything that is without you.
‘My mother is torn into a thousand pieces and she doesn’t even have the strength to face this pain..
‘I need you by my side, I miss you, I need to wake up with you and it breaks my heart to know that we can’t have breakfast together one morning, my love.’
Her friend Angeles Belen supported her with the following words: ‘Dante will always be her mother’s beautiful prince and you are not alone. We love you.”
Numerous other deaths have been documented resulting from accidental drownings.
Late last month, a two-year-old little boy died after choking on wine gum at his mother’s birthday party.
Emergency medical responders rushed to the family’s home and then performed a Heimlich maneuver to free the chewy treat from the teen’s upper respiratory tract.
They managed to remove the chewed fruit but were unable to save the child’s life and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after relatives called 999 and said he could not breathe.
The little boy’s funeral took place on March 2 in the town of Carballo in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, where the drama took place.
In January, a young man died after choking on a piece of tangerine he ate while walking on the street with his friend in a resort town on the Costa Blanca.
Emergency responders could not save the life of the 19-year-old boy, who collapsed in Playa de San Juan, just north of Alicante.
In October last year, British grandmother Ceri Ball, 74, died after choking on a piece of steak at a restaurant in the seaside town of Peniscola, near Valencia, after a day out with her husband Glyn.
Paramedics quickly helped Ceri and she was taken to hospital, but she was without oxygen for too long, said her daughter Lisa Lisseman, from Newport, Wales.
Retired pension fund manager Kenneth Edward Cooper died after choking on lunch while on a cruise off the coast of Spain in April last year.
The ship docked and the 83-year-old man, from Stow Bardolph, Norfolk, was taken to a hospital in the southwestern city of Cadiz, where he died on April 11.
A spokesman for Cunard said after its investigation opened the following month: ‘We can confirm that a guest sadly died last month while our ship was in Cadiz.
‘Despite the support of our on-board medical team, the guest later died in hospital.
‘We offer our sincere condolences to their families and our care team continues to be in contact with them to offer support and assistance.’
