One-year-old girl dies after being struck by freight train in NSW | New South Wales

A young child has died after being hit by a freight train near Narrabri in New South Wales.

Emergency services were called to Baranbah Street in the small village of Baan Baa in the north of the province at 7.50pm on Friday.

The one-year-old girl was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital, where she died.

Officers in Oxley police area were told the boy was walking along the road before he was hit by the train.

The 22-year-old train driver was uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have investigated the scene and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

According to the latest census, fewer than 50 families live in the town, located about 500 kilometers northwest of Sydney.
