ONGC Mori-5 Well Fire Intensity Drops, Blowout Continues on Day 2

The intensity of flames resulting from the explosion at Mori-5 oil and gas well near Irusumanda village in Malikipuram mandal of BR Ambedkar Konaseema district subsided slightly on Tuesday morning, a day after the incident took place. Officials said the height of the flames had visibly decreased compared to Monday.
According to ONGC officials, around 23 percent of the flame intensity has decreased due to gradual depletion of oil and gas pressure. But the eruption continued for the second consecutive day on Tuesday. The fire has been going on continuously for about 20 hours.
While a team of ONGC experts has reached the site, another team of experts from Delhi is expected to arrive shortly. Fire extinguishing efforts continue by spraying water from all four sides using water umbrellas. Arrangements are also being made to bring additional pipes from Narsapuram to strengthen containment efforts.
ONGC Rajamahendravaram Asset Manager Santan Das and Tatipaka ONGC Refinery Manager KJM Rao are monitoring the situation on the ground.
Meanwhile, a few families from Irusumanda village were evacuated as a precautionary measure and shifted to Kalyana Mandapam in Lakkavaram village. Revenue authorities made arrangements for housing and basic needs.
District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar and Superintendent of Police Rahul Meena along with their teams are closely supervising and monitoring the situation, officials said.
