Humiliation for Putin as staggering Russian death count unveiled – full list | World | News

The number of Russian military personnel killed in Ukraine reached 177 thousand 433. mediazona and the BBC’s Russian service. Since the beginning of February, 9 thousand 291 names have been added to the verified list, which also includes photographs of identified soldiers. Journalists compiled these figures using public records, including regional media reports, relatives’ social media posts and official obituaries. They say the true death toll is likely much higher than the confirmed total.
The confirmed death toll now includes more than 57,200 volunteers, 21,400 conscripted prisoners and 17,000 mobilized soldiers, according to media outlets. A total of 6,414 police officers were also confirmed killed. The Kiev Independent states that although Moscow remains silent on casualty figures, the extent of casualties continues to increase as the conflict enters its fourth year.
At least 55,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the 2022 invasion, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a rare statement to France TV on February 4 regarding his own forces’ losses.
This followed his statement in February 2024 in which he stated that 31,000 soldiers had died.
Despite these losses, Russia’s territorial gains remain limited. Ukrainian mapping project DeepState reported that Russian forces occupied an area of 4,336 square kilometers through 2025; this represents less than 1% of Ukraine’s total land area.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine makes a much higher estimate, claiming that Russia has lost approximately 1,250,950 personnel as of February 13. This figure appears to combine those killed, injured, missing and captured.
The reports come amid ongoing tripartite peace talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States, where the status of the Donbas region remains the main obstacle to a ceasefire.
