Montana Senate candidate says he will introduce bill to draft Graham if elected

A longshot Libertarian candidate running for the U.S. Senate in Montana has pledged to introduce legislation that would be drafted by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) if elected.

“I’m running for the U.S. Senate. If elected, the first bill I introduce would implicate Lindsey Graham in any conflict he openly supported while in office,” Tom Jandron said he wrote in a post Wednesday on social platform X.

Jandron is a retired member of the Montana National Guard and a veteran who served in Afghanistan, according to his campaign website.

His criticism of Graham follows war hawks’ open support for the Trump administration’s ongoing military operations against Iran.

The United States and Israel launched a joint attack on the Middle Eastern country at the end of February following failed nuclear deal negotiations.

Graham encouraged the White House to “take” Kharg Island, a major oil export center off the coast of Iran.

GOP Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) criticized Graham for his support of these military operations, calling him “Washington’s war machine.”

The senator has recently taken a softer tone amid ongoing peace deal negotiations between the United States and Tehran. President Trump said Thursday that he will temporarily pause attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure while Iranian officials review a 15-point plan to end the conflict.

Graham expressed hope Thursday that the United States could make deals with Iran to limit its ballistic missile program, cut ties with terrorist groups and stop developing nuclear weapons.

“If diplomacy can achieve these goals, I not only support but prefer it because war is literally hell,” the senator said. In a post on X he wrote:.

Jandron is running to replace Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) after the incumbent senator announced he would retire just three minutes before the early March filing deadline. Daines endorsed Kurt Alme, the Republican U.S. attorney for the Montana District, in the race.

Two candidates are challenging Alme in the Republican race, and five candidates are running for Democrats in the midterm elections.

Jandron is one of two libertarians in the race and will participate in the state’s primary election on June 2.
