OpenAI announces speed, quality upgrades to ChatGPT image generator

OpenAI has announced an update for ChatGPT Images that it says greatly improves both the rendering speed and instruction-following ability of the image generator.
A blog post from the company published Tuesday says the update will make it much easier to make precise edits to AI-generated images. Previous iterations of the program had difficulty following instructions and often made unsolicited changes.
“The update includes much more powerful instruction following, ultra-precise editing, and up to 4x faster rendering speed, making rendering and iterating much more convenient,” the company wrote.
“This marks a shift from new image creation to practical, high-quality image creation, transforming ChatGPT into a fast, flexible creative studio for everyday edits, impressive transformations, and real-world use,” the post continued.

The announcement comes just weeks after OpenAI CEO Sam Altman declared a “code red” in an internal memo to improve the quality of ChatGPT.
In the document, Altman said OpenAI still has a lot of work to do to improve the daily experience from your chatbot, Such as allowing it to answer a wider range of questions and improving its speed, reliability and personalization features for users, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Altman’s companywide report comes as rivals are narrowing OpenAI’s lead in the AI race, with Google last month releasing a new version of its Gemini model that beat OpenAI in industry benchmarks.

Altman said in his memo, according to the Journal, that OpenAI will pull back on work on other initiatives, such as a personal assistant called Pulse, artificial intelligence agents for advertising and healthcare and shopping, to focus on a “code red” effort to improve ChatGPT.
The newspaper also added that Altman will hold daily meetings between the company’s people responsible for developing ChatGPT.
“Our focus now is to continue making ChatGPT more capable, to continue to grow, and to expand reach around the world – while also making it feel even more intuitive and personal,” ChatGPT president Nick Turley wrote on X Monday night.
