Opposition MPs Protest FCRA Amendment Bill in Parliament

New Delhi: Opposition MPs protested in the Makar Dwar Parliament on Wednesday, demanding withdrawal of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026.

Congress MP Hibi Eden described the proposed law as a “draconian law” that could negatively impact minorities and NGOs across the country.

Speaking to ANI, Eden said that the bill will harm the interests of not only minorities but also many NGOs operating in India. He added that the opposition strongly condemned the bill and would demand its withdrawal.

Congress MP Dharamvir Gandhi also opposed the law, stating that such decisions should be impartial and benefit all sections of society rather than being selective.

Revolutionary Socialist Party MP NK Premchandran stated that the problem transcends any one society and claimed that the bill reflects a broader agenda of restricting the rights and privileges of minorities.

The Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026 has been listed for consideration and passage in the Lok Sabha and Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to table the bill for debate.

The bill, introduced on March 25, aims to amend the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 and aims to increase transparency and accountability in foreign contributions received in India.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to submit a legal resolution approving a notification imposing Special Additional Excise Duty of ₹50 per liter on Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF).

The move comes at a time of rising global crude oil prices and rising operational costs in the aviation sector.

The Lok Sabha will begin proceedings at 11 am with Question Hour, following which papers will be presented by ministers including Jitendra Singh and Ravneet Singh.

The House will also consider the reports and statements of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) for the 2025-26 financial year.

Major presentations by BJP MPs Jagdambika Pal and Jai Prakash will include reports on excesses in grants, railway derailments and issues related to service tax and GST collections from passengers.
