Oracle layoffs hit 12,000 in India: Inside the 6 AM email that ended jobs overnight – Full text
According to CNBC, cloud computing company Oracle is laying off thousands of employees to reduce costs. Employees started receiving notifications on Tuesday, according to Business Insider.
The full extent of the cuts that will affect workers around the world was not immediately known. However, some reports suggest that the number could be as high as 20,000 to 30,000 and could also affect around 12,000 Oracle employees in India.
The notification email sent to laid-off employees at 6 a.m. EST on Tuesday caused thousands of jobs to end overnight.
His roles were eliminated with immediate effect, the company said, citing “organizational change.” “Today is your last day of work,” the email viewed by Business Insider reads.
“We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and impact you have made during your time with us,” the company said, adding that terminated employees are eligible to receive a severance package “subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan.”
The cuts affected staff at Oracle Health, Sales, Cloud, Customer Success and NetSuite, according to LinkedIn posts from laid-off employees. They said there was no communication before they received the email.
Oracle said the layoffs were part of a “reduction in force and other terminations,” adding that its Seattle facilities would remain open, CNBC reported.
The company had approximately 162,000 full-time employees worldwide as of May 2025.
The layoffs come amid steps Oracle has taken to increase spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure to better compete with cloud rivals such as Alphabet and Amazon.
Oracle said in a filing in March that it expects total costs related to its fiscal 2026 restructuring plan to reach $2.1 billion, driven largely by employee departures and related expenses.
