Modi lecturing on ‘nari-shakti’ while BJP garlands rapists: TMC’s Sagarika Ghose

“From mocking ‘Didi-oh-Didi’ to crude ’50 crore girlfriend’ jibe, Narendra Modi is now lecturing on ‘nari shakti’,” Ghose said.
“A party that protects sexual assault defendants, garlands rapists and protects the powerful has no moral authority to preach, even when it contacts people convicted of girl child abuse via email,” he said.
Claiming that this was not empowerment but ‘election time theatre’, Ghose stated that the BJP had once again reduced women’s rights to rhetoric, “degraded women and destroyed the cause of gender equality with its arrogant hypocrisy”.
Her remarks came as Modi on Thursday said the proposed amendments to the Women’s Reservation Act were not just a legal exercise but also a reflection of the aspirations of millions of women in India and urged all MPs to come together to support the important move.
In a signed article published on his website, the Prime Minister said the initiative was an affirmation of a principle that has long guided India’s understanding of civilization – that as women advance, society also advances.
He emphasized that the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and assembly elections in various states should be held with women’s reservation.
