Oscar nominee Wunmi Mosaku can’t celebrate amid Minnesota ICE deaths

Oscar nominee and “Sinners” actress Wunmi Mosaku is ignoring her own awards season celebration, claiming she can’t enjoy her first nomination after Alex Pretti and Renee Good were fatally shot by federal agents in Minnesota.

“I couldn’t celebrate because of what’s going on right now, the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents in Minnesota,” Mosaku told The Times of London in an interview published Saturday that made national news for the first time. Diversity.

Both Good and Pretti were killed in January amid rising tensions over immigration. While their deaths remain under investigation, the events have sparked nationwide demonstrations and criticism from some in Hollywood.
Mosaku also referenced the “kidnapping of a five-year-old child,” referring to Liam Ramos, who was detained by federal immigration officials. Authorities said the child’s father fled, leaving the child behind during the attempted stop.
“It’s hard to hold both the nomination and the news at the same time because one feels so beautiful and so dark and heavy,” Mosaku said, adding that it felt “really dystopian.”
“How can I go out, grab some drinks and enjoy the moment?” he said.

“Sinners” received 16 Oscar nominations, making it the most nominated film in Academy history. Mosaku was nominated for a “Best Supporting Actress” award for her role as Annie in the film, a supernatural thriller set in Jim Crow-era Mississippi.
The actress also took aim at the “very strange American spirit,” stating that her husband wasn’t as “shocked” by the news as she was.
“While people can still go to work the next day, I’m lying on the ground for a week wondering, ‘How do people get to crowded places when this is the case?’ I think. I want a cocoon. “My reaction reminded him that this was not normal,” he said.

“ICE Out” pins were spotted on stars like Mark Ruffalo, Jean Smart and Ariana Grande at the Golden Globes.
Singer Billie Eilish and “The White Lotus” actress Natasha Rothwell also criticized ICE policies at the Grammy and Independent Spirit Awards.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
