Osmond eyes downstream prize in EU minerals push

Osmond Resources is looking beyond the drill bit and into the value chain by advancing multiple downstream initiatives tied to its Orión AB critical minerals project in southern Spain.
Orión EU hosts a number of minerals listed by the European Union as critical raw materials and strategically important for the bloc’s industrial and defense supply chains. These include rutile, zircon and monazite, which are the main sources of titanium, zirconium, hafnium and rare earth elements.
Osmond is therefore strategically positioning Orión not just as a mineral discovery but also as a potentially vertically integrated critical minerals play in Europe.
Following the promotion of early drilling and the size of the 228 square kilometer permit area in Andalusia, the company believes Orión has the potential to deliver strong grade at meaningful scale. This combination, if confirmed through ongoing work programmes, could give Osmond a competitive advantage in supplying strategic minerals to an EU market that is actively seeking to reduce dependence on imports.

The company is currently running parallel workflows to examine downstream product options for rare earths, titanium (from the mineral rutile) and silicon. These initiatives are designed to capture additional value beyond concentrate production and potentially open up financing avenues from Spanish and EU government-backed support programmes.
Osmond is also working with various industry partners to advance metallurgical and product-related testing studies, supported by a 150kg bulk sample providing sufficient material for early-stage downstream evaluation.
Bulk rock channel samples collected throughout the Avellanar Zone (or Zone 1) yielded some encouraging results, including 13.36 to 13.49 percent rutile, up to 9.79 percent zircon, up to 1.62 percent high monazite, and up to 1.18 percent total rare earth oxides (TREO). In one sample, the heavy mineral content was as high as 32.8 percent. These figures underline the potential quality profile Osmond aims to exploit.
The Orión AB project in Jaén Province, southern Spain, is hosted in the Ordovician Pochico Formation, a quartzite sequence interpreted primarily as a lithified placer sand system. In geological terms, heavy minerals were initially concentrated in ancient coastal or near-shore environments, then cemented and transformed into quartzite over geological time. A key attraction of the system is that mineralization occurs within predictable, relatively flat-lying layers.

Titanium, the finished product of rutile, one of Orion’s key elements, is a cornerstone metal for aerospace, defense and medical applications; Zircon and zirconium play a vital role in ceramic, refractory and nuclear technologies. Hafnium, which rarely occurs in economic concentrations, is valuable for use in nuclear control rods and high-temperature alloys.
Osmond also fully owns the Iberian One kaolinite and alunite project in central Spain and is exploring options to accelerate the development and local production of alumina, potash and graphite with both global geochemistry giant SGS and the University of Salamanca.
In a European environment increasingly focused on securing local supplies of strategic raw materials, Osmond’s portfolio and timing could be important. The European Critical Raw Materials Act was designed to accelerate projects deemed strategically important; Brussels aims to extract 10 percent domestically and process 40 percent of annual EU consumption by 2030.
Against this backdrop, a scalable rare earth-rutile-silicon system in Spain offers significance far beyond rocks.
If Orión can prove competitive grades as well as downstream processing potential, this would give Osmond a clear advantage as a strategic base in a jurisdiction determined to loosen its dependence on Chinese supply chains.
