Meghan Markle branded ‘villain of the year’ | US | News

Meghan Markle has been branded “villain of the year” and “Montecito diva” by a Los Angeles boutique in a controversial festival appearance.

The Duchess of Sussex is among the gallery of “holiday hypocrites” who form part of the provocative Christmas showcase at fashion retailer Kitson. The store, located on Robertson Boulevard between Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, listed Meghan as among the villains of 2025, alongside California Governor Gavin Newsom, George Clooney and Katy Perry.

The “holiday hypocrisy” window display has become infamous in Los Angeles since its introduction in 2020. Meghan appears on a mock magazine cover wearing a Santa hat emblazoned with the phrase “Montecito diva.”

Her cover features many headlines labeling her and Harry as “the most unpopular kids in school” because they are “unliked by Americans.”

Another headline highlights how Meghan’s As Ever jam is produced at a facility 2,000 miles from her home in California.

The screen also references her wearing £82,000 worth of jewelery during her Netflix festival show, and the headline accuses her of being a hypocrite for refusing to give up her Royal title.

Other celebrities showcased include singer Katy Perry, whose cover focuses heavily on her new partner Justin Trudeau. This isn’t the first time the retailer has targeted the royal family.

Following Harry and Meghan’s departure from the UK, shoppers were invited to declare their allegiance to the Royal Rift by purchasing “Team Harry & Meghan” and “Team William & Kate” t-shirts to support their preferred Royal couple in 2020.

Kitson owner Fraser Ross told the Daily Mail: “It started with customers asking us if there was anything going on with the young royal.

“They kept going on about why they chose one pair over the other. There were literally people on the floor arguing about it. I knew it was time to bring back the infamous ‘Squad’ shirts.”

He continued: “We have a large customer base, so it’s a good barometer to see who’s more popular at the moment.”

In March, Team Kate & William were leading the pack.

Fraser explained: “They outsell Meghan and Harry two to one.

“Just like Team Aniston jerseys doubled the sales of Team Jolie.

“We got our shirts on shortly before ‘Megxit’ was announced, so it was pretty even to begin with. But post-Mexico, the Cambridges were way ahead of the Sussexes.”

The boutique previously gained notoriety by selling Team Aniston and Team Jolie products in 2005, taking advantage of the breakdown of Friends actress Jennifer Aniston’s marriage to Brad Pitt, who later began a relationship with Angelina Jolie.
