Unbecoming of CM Fadnavis To Threaten govt’s Critics : Maha Cong President Sapkal

mumbai : Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal on Friday accused Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis of threatening critics of the state government, saying it was unbecoming of a person in his position. Speaking at the press conference, Sapkal said citizens and the opposition have the right to question the use of public money.

Fadnavis on Wednesday aggressively defended the Mumbai-Pune Expressway ‘Missing Link’ project after it faced criticism over landslides near the tunnel, accusing critics of spreading lies through hired trolls on social media and warning that those who malign Maharashtra with misinformation will not be spared.

“It is not befitting of the chief minister and home minister of a state to threaten those who ask questions by calling them hired stooges or saying ‘I will take care of you’. You are not Maharashtra,” the Congress leader said.

Sapkal claimed that Fadnavis reacted angrily after Congress highlighted corruption in the Missing Link project, saying that using terms like “dogs” and “hired stooges” was unbecoming of the chief minister of a state known for its civilized political culture.

Sapkal said infrastructure projects were financed with taxpayers’ money and the opposition had the right to be held accountable if there were allegations of irregularities.

The Congress leader also alleged that the prime minister made misleading claims on issues such as the Missing Link project, Samruddhi Expressway, reservation and Ladki Bahin scheme and encouraged him to undergo narcoanalysis test along with him.

Sapkal also accused the BJP-led government of spreading misinformation about a possible downpour in Nashik to thwart the Congress’ planned agitation in the city over donation theft from the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

Regarding the farm loan waiver announced by the Mahayuti government, Sapkal claimed that it has not been implemented yet.

“Farmers are unhappy and the BJP-Mahayuti government has failed to address their concerns,” he said.
