Suspected burglar found asleep by police in child’s bed

A man found sleeping in a child’s bed has been arrested on suspicion of theft.

Police body camera footage shows the 24-year-old being woken up by officers at the property in Newark, Nottinghamshire, in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

He was found curled up on a small floor bed.

Police officers were called to the home around 3:15 a.m. on reports that the house had been burglarized and found a broken window.

The property was empty except for the suspect.

Inspector Dale Smith, of Nottinghamshire Police, said:

“The officers who responded to this incident did an excellent job apprehending a suspect as quickly as possible.

“Hearing that there was a theft, the team moved towards the house and took action when they suspected that there might be an intruder inside the house.

“As it turned out, the property was completely empty, except for a man lying on a floor bed in one of the rooms.

“As demonstrated by our strong response to this report of theft, we will always take such incidents seriously and act accordingly.”
