Padma Awards Nominations Open for 2027
New Delhi: The nomination and recommendation process for the Padma Awards, which will be announced on Republic Day 2027, started on Sunday. The deadline to apply for candidacy is July 31, 2026.
“Nominations and recommendations for Padma Awards will be received online only through Rashtriya Puraskar Portal,” the Union Home Ministry said in a statement.
The Padma Awards – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri – are among the country’s highest civilian awards.
In the statement, it was stated that the awards, which were started in 1954, were announced every year on the occasion of Republic Day to reward “works that create privilege”.
The awards are given for distinguished and exceptional achievements and services in a variety of fields and disciplines, including the arts, literature and education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, public service, commerce and industry.
“Everyone is eligible for these awards, regardless of race, profession, position or gender. Except for doctors and scientists, public servants, including those working in public sector organisations, are not eligible for the Padma Awards,” the ministry said.
The statement said that the government is determined to transform the Padma Awards into “People’s Padma”.
“Therefore, all citizens are requested to nominate or make suggestions, including their own nominations. Efforts may be made to identify talented individuals whose excellence and achievements deserve recognition, especially among women, weaker sections of society, SCs, STs, divyang persons and those who have given selfless service to the society.”
Nominations and recommendations must include all relevant details mentioned in the format available on the portal and clearly highlight the distinguished achievements and services of the recommended person in his or her field.
The details are available in the “Awards and Medals” section of the Ministry of Home Affairs website and the Padma Awards portal, the statement said. The statutes and rules regarding the awards are also available on the website.
