Paedophile’s stash found after partner reported him

A pedophile whose collection of photographs of raped children was discovered after his concerned partner reported him to the police has been jailed.

Newcastle Crown Court heard that Luke Tyson, 22, collected hundreds of photographs over several years, including ones showing babies being abused.

Judge Gavin Doig said it was a “tragedy” to witness someone so young commit such an offence.

Tyson, from Sunderland, admitted several offenses including making indecent images of children and breaching sexual risk orders and was jailed for three years and four months.

Prosecutor Emily Sanderson said he was reported to police by his then partner, who found some photos of him and chats on his phone.

The court heard officers found 192 indecent images on his device, 51 of which were in the most serious category, as well as a banned photo of a man having sex with a pig.

The court heard he was previously made subject to a sexual risk order after being found guilty of making indecent images of children as a teenager and was later given a suspended prison sentence for further offending.

The court heard that during a regular monitoring visit with a risk assessment officer, he was found to have a phone and online storage account that was not registered with the police, in breach of a court order.

Sanderson said a further 246 indecent videos of children aged between infancy and 12 were found, 127 of which were in the most serious category.

The court heard that the most serious videos included those showing a three- or four-year-old girl being raped by a man.

Judge Doig said the fact that Tyson was so young was “one of the tragedies of the case”.

The judge told him: “It is very unfortunate that you are so involved in this type of crime as you are only 22 years old and I hope you can change your ways.”
