Pakistan end campaign winless as rain washes out Sri Lanka clash, Captain Fatima Sana blames ICC

Pakistan ended their 2025 Women’s World Cup campaign winless after rain marred their last match against Sri Lanka. Captain Fatima Sana blamed the weather for not giving the team a chance of a good result, leaving the fans disappointed when the tournament ended.

Sri Lanka and Pakistan finished the final match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup group stage on joint points as heavy rain disrupted play at the R Premadasa International Stadium in Colombo. As a result, Pakistan finished their campaign winless, collecting just three points from seven matches, all of which were attributed to the qualifiers. In contrast, Sri Lanka finished the tournament with five points from seven matches and managed only one win.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl, but Pakistan only managed to score 18 runs without losing a wicket in 4.2 overs before rain disrupted the match again. With no signs of improvement in weather conditions, the game was ultimately abandoned, making it the fifth match in the tournament to be affected by rain.

Earlier, a rain delay had postponed the toss and the powerplay was set at seven overs, leading to the match being reduced to 34 overs per side.

Making a single change to the Sri Lankan squad, Dewmi Vihanga to change Udeshika prabodhani. On the other hand, including Pakistan Eyman Fatima and Syeda aroob Shah for the final match of the group stage.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana expressed her disappointment: “I think the only thing that did not go in our favor was the weather conditions. I think ICC should arrange three good venues for the World Cup because we are waiting for four years to play in the World Cup.”

Both teams were eliminated from the semi-finals and aim to complete their World Cup journey on a positive note.

While Sri Lanka earlier secured their first points with a narrow victory against Bangladesh in Navi Mumbai, Pakistan struggled throughout the campaign and only collected points from matches abandoned due to rain.

Earlier, Sri Lanka’s victory against Bangladesh had kept their hopes of advancing to the semi-finals alive but India’s victory against New Zealand ultimately destroyed their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
