Pakistan Proposes US-Built Pasni Port On Arabian Sea: Strategic Move And Its Implications For India | India News

Things that can indicate a significant geopolitical change in the region, the Pakistani Army General Asim Munir’e advisors to the US officials of the US officials in the Arabian Sea in the Arab Sea reportedly offered an offer to build and operate a new port. If the plan took place, Washington would offer a strategic base in a critical maritime corridor for only kilometers of Iran and China’s Gwadar port.
The initiative, which is still an unofficial government policy, was reported to be discussed with General Munir before the White House meeting with US President Donald Trump last month. However, a senior US official announced that the proposal was not officially submitted to the President or advisors to evaluate it.
According to the media reports, the bid foresees to turn Pasni into a center to process and export Pakistan’s critical minerals such as copper and antimony of Pakistan, which is about 100 miles and 70 miles away from Iran. These minerals are vital for batteries, fire resistant materials and missile components.

The proposed US $ 1.2 billion Pasni project includes a railway connection that connects the port to Pakistan’s mineral interiors, including the Reko Diq mine operated by Canada’s Barrick Gold Corporation. According to the plan, financing would come from the combination of Pakistan Federal Resources and US -supported development financing.
The proposal argues that the project can help Pakistan’s diversification of strategic partnerships and reduce the addiction to China, which operates under the Gwadar’s belt and road attempt (BRI). The Plan defines the location of Pasni as advantageous for participation in the Arab Sea and Central Asia and presents “a balance on China’s increasing impact on Gwadar”.
The document also tries to address security sensitivities and indicates that it will not be a “direct basic”, which means that the facility will not host the US military presence.
Potential development for India carries significant strategic inferences. A US -backed port in Pasni can change the sea balance in the Arab Sea, challenge China’s regional dominance, and complicate India’s maritime account on the western coast. The movement underlines Pakistan’s attempt to position as a strategic pivot between Washington and Beijing, among Pakistan’s changing power dynamics.
