Pakistan refuses to comment on proposal to end US-Iran war, says peace process alive

Pakistan’s Islamabad city on Monday refused to comment on reports that it had proposed a framework to end the ongoing US-Iran war and confirmed that the peace process was alive.

“There have been numerous reports regarding the 45-day ceasefire proposal or the 15-point exchange. We do not comment on these individual, specific events,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Tahir Andrabi was quoted as saying on state-run Pakistan TV. he said.

However, he confirmed that the peace process is continuing.

The reaction followed reports in Western media that Pakistan had presented a peace plan to Washington and Tehran that included detailed talks to end the conflict after a ceasefire.

Pakistan launched efforts last month to end the war and at one point came close to hosting officials from the United States and Iran, but that failed to materialize due to “maximalist” positions taken by the rival sides, according to officials.

However, Pakistan made new efforts after hosting a quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad of foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt and Pakistan, followed by a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Dar and Wang released a five-point peace plan based on a ceasefire and talks to end the conflict.

Chief of General Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir was the linchpin of the latest effort and was in contact with officials from Iran and the United States to help end the war, officials said.
