The incident comes just a week after police identified Shamar Elkins as a suspect in a domestic violence attack that left eight children dead and two women shot in Louisiana last week.
Shreveport Police Department Corporal Christopher Bordelon identified Elkins when speaking to reporters near the scene Sunday evening and called the mass shooting a “heinous crime.”
Elkins is also accused of shooting the children’s mother, who was expected to survive, and another woman with life-threatening injuries. A teenage victim also suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
According to investigators, the suspect first shot a woman on Harrison Street before heading to a residence on West 79th Street where the murders took place.
