But there was one major problem: none of it was true. The French Navy made the report public with a scathing statement on its official X account, saying that the channel not only made fabricated quotes but even got the officer’s name wrong. Geo TV referred to him as “Jacques Launay” instead of Captain Yvan Launay. In other words, not only did Pakistan invent phrases, it failed to even correctly name the person it misquoted.

Destroying Pakistan’s narrative with surgical precision, Marine Nationale said, “These statements are attributed to Captain Launay, who never authorized their publication in any form. The article contains extensive misinformation and disinformation.”
The controversial Pakistan article had sensationally claimed that Captain Launay had told an Indo-Pacific conference that the Pakistan Air Force performed “much better” during the conflict involving over 140 fighter jets on May 6-7, that Indian Rafales were shot down and that Chinese support had helped Pakistan. The French Navy said categorically: none of this was true.
