UGC makes registration on new Study in India portal mandatory for all foreign students

The University Grant Commission (UGC) required that all foreign nationals studying at the universities in the country (HEI) and the universities in the country should have registered themselves in a new portal (SII) portal. Open to the public, the UGC said that working visas will be connected to the SII portal.
So far, foreign nationals who wish to work in higher education institutions of India will be valid for relevant higher education institutions or universities and relevant institutions will help to obtain visas for selected and appropriate students. Foreign students in the country do not have central data, which makes it difficult to follow them, especially in the police’s extreme complaints and in some cases fond of crimes.
In order to attach this gap, the UGC, the Indian government, in the instructions of the Ministry of Education, has now required that all foreign students and even established foreign students should have forced register to the SII portal since 2025-26.
The UGC instructed foreign students to appoint a compliance with a compliance officer in order to comply with all the instructions within the scope of SII program and portal, and at the same time to facilitate the safe and appropriate stay on the campus.
Karn Chandrashekhara, Executive Director of Karnataka State Higher Education Council, said that the flow of foreign students to the state is expected to emerge with more foreign universities expected to establish their campuses in Bengaluru. “We Already Have Imperial College of London in Bengaluru, and Liverpool University Has Signed an Agreement to Establish a Campus in the City.
