Former Attorney General Pam Bondi will not appear as scheduled on April 14 to testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about her and the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, the panel’s spokeswoman said Wednesday.

The spokesman said Bondi’s hearing was canceled because “he is no longer the Attorney General and has been subpoenaed in his capacity as the Attorney General.”

The spokesman said the committee would contact Bondi’s lawyer “to discuss next steps regarding scheduling his deposition.”

The Oversight Committee issued a subpoena to Bondi in March, requiring his testimony.

President Donald Trump fired Bondi as attorney general on April 2 after it was reported that he was unhappy with Bondi’s handling of the Justice Department’s files on notorious sex offender Epstein, whose high-profile friends include Trump in the past.

Bondi and the Justice Department have come under harsh criticism over the Epstein files since last year.

Bondi and other prominent figures in Trump’s orbit had promised that the Justice Department’s documents regarding Epstein would be made public after Trump regained the White House in January 2025.

Bondi reneged on that promise, which led Congress to pass a bill requiring Trump to release those files.

The Justice Department has since released millions of documents about Epstein and his convicted procurer Ghislaine Maxwell.

However, the ministry and Bondi were criticized after this statement for withholding many other documents about Epstein and Maxwell, as well as other matters related to the files.
