Park ranger dies after falling into a crevasse on Alaska’s Mount McKinley | Alaska

A ranger in Alaska died after falling into a crevasse on North America’s highest mountain, the US National Park Service said.
Robin Pendery fell while climbing on patrol on the mountain locally known as Denali on Thursday. Despite emergency rescue efforts, the woman died, the park service said.
Pendery, of Enumclaw, Washington, was a seasonal mountaineering ranger assigned to Denali national park and preserve.
The death is under investigation. This comes just a week after three climbers joining a mountaineering team in Latvia fell to their deaths near a dangerous pass on Denali that the U.S. government has referred to as Mount McKinley at various points, including during the second Trump administration.
A fourth climber who participated in this expedition was rescued. They were part of a seven-man team that traversed a route known for its exposed sections, where many climbers have been killed or injured over the years.
The mountain stands approximately 20,310 ft (6,190 meters) above sea level, and Pendery crashed near a camp at 14,000 ft (4,328 meters).
“Our mountaineering rangers are dedicated to serving visitors and helping others in one of the world’s most challenging environments,” Denali chief Brooke Merrell said in a statement Friday. he said. “Today we mourn the loss of a valued colleague, friend and teammate.”
