Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said the restriction requires a deep debate. He said the same haste and restriction exercise shown by the government during demonetisation was political demonetisation.

Mr. Tharoor claimed that the 50% seat increase formula proposed by Amit Shah was an unstable political statement and was not promised by the legislature.

Expanding the LS to 850 seats would render the body unusable. Mr. Tharoor said that while the size of LS is increasing, there is no proposal to increase the size of RS, which would create an imbalance between the two houses.

We will support the women’s reservation bill but let’s postpone the Limitation Bill, Mr. Tharoor said.
