Parts of Perth drop to zero degrees as WA wakes to chilly morning
It was a cold morning in Perth today, with the mercury dropping to just 0.6 degrees in Pearce.
While the temperature in the CBD dropped to 4.5 degrees overnight, it dropped to 1.2 degrees at Perth Airport and 1.8 degrees at Jandakot this morning. It was even colder in the Swan Valley, where the lowest temperature was recorded at 1.1 degrees at around 7am this morning.
Temperatures are about four degrees cooler than normal for this time of year; A pool of very cold air behind the cold front is responsible for a week of cooler mornings and lower maximum temperatures in the teens.
The front is causing temperatures to be even colder than recorded, with “as if” temperatures reaching -1.7 degrees in Pearce this morning. Perth felt like 2.4 degrees and the Swan Valley felt like -0.6 degrees.
The bureau predicts that cold mornings will continue for the rest of the week, with at least 5 degrees expected by Friday.
