Pauline Hanson’s One Nation primary vote dips to 24 per cent, new Newspoll survey finds

Support for Pauline Hanson’s political movement may have peaked in the first few months of the year; because new polls point to a decline in his party’s primary election votes.

The latest News Poll, which surveyed 1,235 voters over four days last week, found One Nation had a two-point drop.

The poll for The Australian showed the party’s primary vote falling to 24 per cent, while Labor and the Coalition held steady at 31 per cent and 21 per cent respectively.

The Greens and “others” primary voting options increased by one point to 13 and 11.

One Nation’s slight decline is still miles ahead of the 6.4 per cent the party posted in the May 2025 election, but continues a downward trend from the high watermark of 27 per cent recorded twice in early and late February before a one-point drop in March.

The change was echoed in a Resolve Political Monitor poll of 1,807 people conducted this month for the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, which showed a two-point drop in One Nation’s support from 24 per cent to 22 per cent.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s lead over opposition Angus Taylor has increased slightly, according to Newspoll results; 46 percent of people said they believed he would be a better prime minister than Taylor’s 37.

Ahead of the May budget, the survey asked respondents whether they approved of 10 options to increase tax revenue.

None of the options attracted the support of a majority of voters, but only 18 percent of voters flatly rejected them all.

Among the most positive were increasing the oil resource lease tax by 42 percent, reducing tax deductions for real estate investors by 35 percent, and reducing tax deductions for family foundations by 29 percent.
