Peace deal between US and Iran agreed as operations to cease ‘on all fronts’ | US | News

Sir Keir Starmer, in a joint statement with the leaders of France, Germany and Italy, said that the US-Iran agreement should be “implemented quickly and comprehensively”.

The joint statement, called E4, said: “We warmly welcome the announcement of the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. We congratulate the United States, the Iranian government and everyone involved, including Pakistan, Qatar and all other mediators, on this diplomatic breakthrough.”

“This is a moment of opportunity to restore regional stability and stabilize the global economy.

“It is now vital to conclude detailed negotiations and implement this agreement quickly and comprehensively. We are ready to support this effort.

“It is essential to urgently reopen the Strait of Hormuz with unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation. We are determined to do our part to achieve this – in accordance with our relevant constitutional requirements – including hard defense and an independent mission to secure commercial shipping and conduct demining operations.”

“Iran should never have nuclear weapons. To this end, we are ready to work with the United States, Iran and the IAEA. We are ready to lift the relevant sanctions in response to clear and verifiable steps taken by Iran regarding its nuclear program.”

“We will work intensively with the United States, Iran, and our regional partners to seize this moment, maintain momentum, and reach a long-term diplomatic solution.

“We also reaffirm our full support for the stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon and the importance of a solid ceasefire.”
