‘Peak hypocrisy’: AOC’s ‘socialist’ brand questioned after Puerto Rico spending spree

After investing nearly $50,000 in Puerto Rico to rent luxury hotels, high-end restaurants and a venue where musical artist Bad Bunny performed earlier this year, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is questioning whether her socialist persona is more branding than creed, considering she lives like the elites she claims to be fighting.

“This isn’t new for her, she’s a hypocrite,” former White House press secretary Sean Spicer said of revelations about AOC’s campaign spending. “Remember the dress she wore to the famous MET Gala that said ‘Tax the Rich’; it wasn’t exactly ‘ready-made,’ it was a couture dress designed just for her, so to speak.”

Spicer criticized AOC and her fellow “squad” lawmakers who like to rally against capitalism but certainly don’t care about taking advantage of it.

“These people know no boundaries. They like to tell everyone what they should do about their carbon footprint and then they fly private. They like to talk about the excesses of the rich and then they take advantage of it, trade stocks, get rich in Congress. I’ve had quite a bit of trouble with these guys, but at the end of the day it’s great that they’re being called out on this because hypocrisy knows no bounds.”

Last week, Fox News Digital revealed that AOC spent nearly $50,000 in Puerto Rico in her latest campaign filing, while also traveling there and attending a Bad Bunny concert.

Videos that surfaced on social media from the trip in August show AOC visiting a public housing project to oppose gentrification, while other images from social media showed her dancing Rep. Nydia Velázquez with DN.Y in what appear to be box seats at the Bad Bunny concert on Aug. 10. Between August and September, Bad Bunny embarked on a 31-show “Residency” tour at the popular “El Choli” Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, featuring numerous celebrities including LeBron James, Iggy Azalea, Penelope Cruz, and Austin Butler.

Meanwhile, a third-quarter campaign finance report that records campaign spending by members of Congress from July 1 to Sept. 30 shows that AOC’s campaign spent more than $15,000 at two luxury hotels in San Juan, where Bad Bunny is holding his “Residency” tour. The campaign also spent more than $10,500 on food and catering services, according to the filing.

“AOC wouldn’t be a full-fledged socialist if she didn’t spend someone else’s money irresponsibly,” said GOP political strategist Matt Gorman. “Whether it is Mamdani or him, these people claim to defend working people, yet they do not hesitate to reward themselves with the spoils of other people’s money.”

GOP Florida convention hopeful Michael Carbonara said in response to AOC’s campaign spending uncovered by Fox News Digital, “AOC constantly rails against ‘the rich,’ but still spends tens of thousands of dollars of campaign money on luxury hotels, fancy dining, and exclusive venues on her trip to Puerto Rico.” he said. “Socialism for you, first-class living for him. Hypocrisy writes itself.”
