Pedestrians hit in alleged drink driving crash

Allegedly, a drunk driver tried to flee the scene after an accident in which a young girl and a man were injured on a busy urban road.

Police said an out-of-control Audi SUV crashed into pedestrians on Chapel Street in Windsor, in Melbourne’s south-east, about 10pm on Thursday.

Officers claimed the car was traveling too fast before the crash, which ended with it crashing into a brick wall about 50 meters from the scene.

The car crashed into the wall near the tram stop and pedestrian crossing and suffered serious damage.

Police claimed the driver tried to avoid the crash before being detained by witnesses.

The 18-year-old girl and the 63-year-old man were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The 33-year-old driver, whose alcohol test was positive, was hospitalized as a precaution.

Police arrested and questioned the driver for a variety of alleged offences, including dangerous driving and careless behavior that would endanger serious injury.

He was released and is expected to be charged upon summons.
