A “magnificent” medieval Scottish castle can be yours – as long as you have £1 million. Law Castle is a 15th-century medieval tower house in West Kilbride, North Ayrshire, and is now available through estate agents Savills.
The remarkable estate was first acquired in 1467 by King Henry II of Scotland, a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce. It was commissioned as a wedding gift for James’ daughter, Princess Mary Stuart. It’s brimming with amazing features, including one that one social media user said “changed everything.” Listing on Rightmove It highlights the dungeon’s dining room, stone walls, wooden beams, fireplaces and six bedrooms.

Potential buyers can even go up to the roof, enjoying stunning views across the Ayrshire countryside. And this is what can be seen in one of the bedrooms, which completely amazed one Reddit user.
They shared the link to the ad on the social media platform with the title “Suspension bridge bearing. This changes everything.”
Indeed, a photograph inside one of the bedrooms reveals a double bed, with chains connecting the top of the wooden wall to the foot of the bed, creating a striking drawbridge effect. It remains unclear whether the bed can be suspended from the wall like a real suspension bridge. Journaling reports.
The Rightmove listing describes the property as “a magnificent 15th-century castle restored to impeccable standards”. It details how the castle fell into disrepair in the 19th century, before a restoration project that began at the end of the 20th century and was completed in 2005.
The listing states: “Today, Law Castle stands as a testament to Scotland’s architectural resilience and royal heritage, positively reflecting the romance, pride and passion of Scotland’s history. “The restoration has retained authentic period features, including a spiral stone staircase, vaulted chambers and wheelhouse lookout, whilst seamlessly integrating modern comforts.
“The result is a residence of extraordinary character, historical weight and if you imagine it filled with Bruce, the Knights Templar and The Da Vinci Code you wouldn’t be far wrong! This is an extremely rare opportunity to own, ‘feel’ and be part of an incredibly authentic piece of Scotland’s noble past.”
It also states: “The property is well suited for use as a private residence, holiday destination or investment opportunity in Scotland’s thriving heritage tourism sector. The local area is welcoming and well-connected with a strong sense of community.”
There were various reactions from Reddit users. One said: “This is the stupidest, most ridiculous house I’ve ever seen. I love it.”
Another shared personal memories of the castle, saying: “My family live close to here, it was so funny growing up, the local kids had lots of crazy urban legends about who lived there.
“Great views over Arran (originally built in the 15th century for the woman who married the Earl of Arran), but I think it was a nightmare to heat and didn’t get much natural light.”
Another said: “I used to use this place as my winter home, all the fires would be burning in the winter but I think it would be a little dark in the summer.”
Another wrote: “This is literally the best house I’ve ever seen. I want it so bad.”
