Perth leads nation in property price growth
Premier Roger Cook has defended his government’s decision to spend $12.9 million to upgrade WACA so it can become the Perth Bears’ temporary training centre.
The home of cricket will be upgraded to NRL club standard with the installation of new goalposts and better quality turf, and the Bear’s management will also be based there.

Cook denied at a press conference this morning that the cash splash failed to fulfill his promise to the people of WA not to spend taxpayers’ money to buy WA’s new NRL team.
He said the improved facilities will also serve other professional sports clubs.
“We have teams coming from abroad, from the east, looking for places to base themselves before a match, for example Tottenham Hotspur, they trained at WACA when they were here,” Cook said.
“So providing this funding not only provides an interim solution for the Perth Bears, but also creates a new facility for clubs and sports teams coming to WACA.”
Perth Bears will eventually be based in Malaga.
