Peter Mandelson apologises for Epstein association in sudden U-turn | Peter Mandelson

Peter Mandelson apologized for his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after refusing to do so in an interview published Sunday.

His Labor colleague, who was sacked as US ambassador in September after details of his support for Epstein emerged, claimed in an interview with the BBC that, as a gay man, he knew nothing about the disgraced financier’s sex life.

On Monday night, Mandelson “absolutely” apologized for his association with Epstein following his conviction.

In the statement, he said: “I gave an interview to the BBC over the weekend. While answering questions about my relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, I did not want to be held responsible for the lies he told me and many others, for which I was ignorant and indifferent.

“I want to say loud and clear that I was wrong to believe him after his conviction and to continue to be with him afterwards. I publicly apologize to the women and girls who suffered for doing so.”

“I was never guilty or complicit in his crimes. Like everyone else, I learned the full truth about him after his death.

“But his victims knew what he was doing, their voices were not being heard, and I am truly sorry that I was among those who believed him instead.”
